Natasha Jonas looking to capitalize on Katie Taylor’s weaknesses
As British lightweight Natasha Jonas gets set to take on Katie Taylor in a May 1 title fight, Jonas and her trainer Joe Gallagher tell Sky Sports that they’re not intimidated by Taylor’s reputation. In fact, Gallagher points out that Taylor has shown that she can be hurt in fights and that leaves an opening for Jonas to get in there and do the business. Jonas herself is also taking confidence in the chinks in Taylor’s armor, as evidenced by he past fights against Delfine Persoon.
“I know that I’m not boxing the aura that is, the legacy that is, the legend that is Katie Taylor, I’m just boxing another human,” said Jonas. “Everyone’s got weaknesses, everyone’s human, and I will be trying to capitalise on them and put my best foot forward. Everyone mentions the Persoon fights but styles make fights and I’m not Persoon, but what I do think Persoon did was make her look human.”
Gallagher would also make note of Taylor getting the benefit on official scorecards in the past and says they’ll be looking to know exactly who will be judging and make any necessary objections with the British Boxing Board of Control should the be required.
Jonas (9-1-1, 7 KOs) is most recently coming off of a split draw against Terri Harper last August while Taylor (17-0, 6 KOs) last took a unanimous decision over Miriam Gutierrez in November.
