On a United States evacuation plane, an Afghan refugee gives birth.
U.S. Air Mobility Command announced on Twitter that a woman gave birth to a baby girl in the cargo hold of an Air Force C-17 airplane after going into labor and encountering complications throughout the journey.
“The aircraft commander made the decision to decrease in altitude in order to raise air pressure in the aircraft, which assisted in stabilizing the aircraft and saving the mother’s life,” according to the tweet.
The woman was a member of a group of people fleeing the Taliban in Afghanistan, and she was on the second stage of an evacuation flight that had taken off from a location in the Middle East earlier that morning.
