Prajnesh Gunneswaran, India’s top-ranked tennis player, advanced to the second round of the US Open qualifiers with a straight set victory over Canada’s Brayden Schnur.
On Wednesday night, Gunneswaran defeated the World No. 232 Canadian 6-4 7-6 in one hour 37 minutes.

The World No. 156 is the lone Indian remaining in the men’s singles qualifications, after Sumit Nagal and Ramkumar Ramanathan were eliminated in the first round.
Ankita Raina also withdrew after losing to American Jamie Loeb in the first round of women’s singles qualifying.
